HOT
Ok, I know that this is completely random, but I just saw that the thermometer on my site reads 106.7. I think that must be a record for us! Yikes!

Dad's Day

I can't think of the Fourth of July without thinking of my Dad. He was born on the 4th of July. If he were still with us, he would be 71 today. I always thought it was perfect that he was born on the 4th. Since he was my Dad and a policeman, I just always thought that it "fit" him. He, like Independence Day, was kind of serious and commanded respect, but had a fun side too. It was a holiday that he always seemed to really enjoy. He was not much of a holiday person, I don't think he liked getting together on Thanksgiving. He bought his Christmas presents on Christmas Eve and thought that most of the other holidays were made up by Hallmark. But he really liked the 4th. Being a "real man", he loved things that exploded and made tons of noise. I can remember all of the kids on our street coming down to our house to set off fireworks, because my Dad would always have something special. Like the year that he set off a smoke bomb that completely obscured the street for more than five minutes. Or when he would set off a big bundle of fire crackers. It was fantastic! On the Fourth of July, my Dad was always the coolest around. It was a day he brought out his fun side. So today, I am going to celebrate that fun side, happy birthday Dad!

Camp Arrowhead
There has never been a more enthusiastic Girl Scout than Katie. She was 2 years old when David joined Boy Scouts and she has attended nearly every meeting and activity that he was involved in for the next 5 years, until she was finally able to join scouts herself. She could not wait to BE the scout! The one activity that she was never able to do or see was camp. This past month, she finally got her chance. It was a fantastic day! Great weather, great friends, a great time. It was so satisfying to see her have her first scout camp day. This October we are going to overnight camp, and now we both can't wait!

Snake Update
Like most people with kids, we have been very busy with school ending. There have been band concerts, report cards, Brownie parties, etc. and I will be blogging about all of that soon. But by far the most asked about topic from my blog lately is the snakes. Everyone asks me "what have you done about the snakes?". Well, while I have been trying to scare them away and chasing them into the neighbor's yard (not yours Lisa), the kids have been trying to make friends with them.

Make you melt
Add this to the list of things I never thought I would see, my husband willingly going to a dance with his daughter.

What the heck
Ok, I thought that the snakes and I had an understanding. They stay out of my way and I will stay away from them. But now I feel like they are just taking advantage!
