What to do?

What did we do while we were stuck in this weather for 12 days while waiting for Christmas?

Have a sleepover,
bake some bread,
play video games,
knit a scarf,
make snow angels,

go for a drive when it gets to be too much,
or walk around taking random pictures that you will later post on your blog.
What would you do?

It looks like someone was listening

On the 16th I said "let it snow" and apparently someone was listening to me because it has been snowing and snowing and snowing.

We have not had this much snow in Portland since 1960!  They are saying now that it is going to be around for a few more days.  Maybe we will have a white Christmas this year!

Family Tradition

There are so many little things that we do that are really family traditions.  One that I look forward to every year is Christmas shopping with my Mom.  We usually shop for 2 or 3 days straight, we walk until our legs hurt and we look a lot more than we buy.  It's a simple thing, but one of my favorites since I don't get to see my Mom often enough.

Giving Thanks

All week I have been wanting to post a Thanksgiving Day message. My first idea was to write a list of things I am thankful for. But the list quickly became too long and I started having anxiety about leaving things off the list, what if I don't list that great gift that someone gave me, does that mean that I'm not thankful for it? I don't know, but the first list had to go. Then I thought maybe I would just write about the big general thankfulness, like I'm thankful for family, health, friends, etc. But that sounded too lame, and too Hallmark. So, what am I really thankful for?

Growing up poor and hardly ever knowing it.
Having parents with "important" jobs ( I always had pride in that).
Dogs (they have always been there for me).
Leaving my hometown and not going back.
Having one best friend in high school.
Meeting Pete and sticking with him.
Having two great kids (only later to find out that it should have been difficult for me and it wasn't).
Living far enough away from family to know how far away is too far.
Buying a house that we could barely afford.
Volunteering in David's Kindergarten class (Des, you know why).
Being involved in the kids school (I have met so many great people there, it has changed my life).
Making all of the mistakes that I have
made so far (I wouldn't want to go through them again, but I don't know who I would be without them).
Everyone who is reading this blog, I'm thankful for you.
